Sure, everyone knows the historical stories of Napoleon and the likes. But what about the unsung, yet fascinating people we don’t ever hear about? Are we just going to let them slide into oblivion?
Well, not us! With this podcast series, we are here to decenter history by diving into the stories of the sometimes fascinating, obsessed, inspiring, or outright strange folks that have wandered the edges of this Earth. So, who this? Welcome to our podcast!
We all know the story of Bonnie and Clyde, but many of us are unfamiliar with the bandit couple Maria Bonita and Lampião.
Their story takes place in the 1920s and 1930s in the Brazilian Northeast, which was riddled with violence, corruption and poverty. Growing up in this harsh reality, Maria Bonita decided to create her own path, against the grain of patriarchy. She met the famous bandit leader Lampião, jumped on the back of a horse, and followed love with a gun in hand.

History is not just one narrative, it is a cacophony of different voices, each equally important as the other. What’s more is that each of our different lived experiences makes us tune in to different voices, because depending on who and where we are, some historical echoes will be louder than others. And so, we bring you to your new guides!
Rami, Ludmila, Nomita, Alma, and Robert share a little about themselves and how they connect with – or were affected by – people in history. History resonates; tune in on the next episodes as they each tell you more!
